The Good Pub Guide 2000 A nice civilised feel here, with polished boards, solid stripped pine furniture, dado and stall dividers, a couple of house keeper's chairs and some hefty rustic implements by the big log fireplace, fishing boat pictures, netting and some nautical hardwear overhead. There are flagstones by the serving counter, which has well kept Bass. Round the corner is an area with darts, pool, shove-ha-penny, cribbage, dominoes, shut the box and chess. A cosy little bistro opens off on the left, and down a long bright corridor is a little children's room with seaside murals and a box of toys. There's a picknic-set by the narrow lane in front of the pretty white cottage (hung with flowering baskets in summer), and more under parasols in a streamside garden with a terrace behind. We have not heard from readers using the bedrooms here, but the inn does have its own parking further up the village - a real boon. Dogs are welcomed with a biscuit. Life - The Observer Magazine Close to the quayside and the coastal path, this white painted cottage style pub offers an exceptionally friendly welcome: dogs are greeted with a biscuit. The pub-cum-hotel has been sensitively refurbished with a nautical theme: there are pictures of fishing boats on the walls, while fishing tackle and netting hang from the ceiling. As well as the cosy bar, there is a bistro for full meals, a childrens play area with toys, an adult games room with darts, shove-ha-penny, dominoes, cribbage and the rare game of shut-the-box. |
